Remembering the Armada

OPV-Centinela-Embarks-on-West-African-Mission

On Sunday 25th September 2016 the Spanish Navy (Armada) vessel OPV Centinela will lead out a Parade of Sail at Streedagh Beach, Sligo to remember the 1,100 souls who perished on that beach in 1588. Centinela will be accompanied by a flotilla of local boats.

Remembering the Armada – Event Schedule

10.00 – 11.00      Walk from Grange to Wrecking Shore

11.00 – 11. 30      Ceremony and Wreath Laying at Monument

11.30 – 12.00      Parade to Shore led by Cos Cos Pageantry

12.00 – 13.00      Parade of Sail at Streedagh Beach / Wreath laying on wreck site.

13.00                     Last boat departs Streedagh for Mullaghmore

14.00                     Small craft briefing at Mullaghmore Sailing Club

15.00 – 16.00      Armada Crescent Formation at Mullaghmore Harbour

Armada Crescent Formation – Mullaghmore

Boats of all shapes and sizes will attempt to recreate the spectacular crescent formation that the Armada fleet used when attacking England in 1588. Both maritime events will be a moving tribute to the Armada fallen of 400 years ago.

Open Air Recital by Army Band 2 Brigade at Mullaghmore. Maritime events will run subject to weather conditions, please check website for update.
